First Street: Grinding & Paving Next

Sidewalk construction on First Street in Snohomish

The contractor is finishing up sidewalk concrete work at First & Union this week, with an expected date of completion on Monday, Sept. 18.

The remaining 2-3 weeks of work on this improvement project will have the most impacts on downtown traffic and parking. Asphalt grinding of First Street from Union to Lincoln Avenue is anticipated to begin either the end of next week (around Sept. 22) or the beginning of the week of Sept. 25th. Once grinding has been completed, paving will occur the following day unless there is rainy weather. Both grinding and paving will take 1-2 days each to complete.

There will be no parking allowed during this phase of construction. Signs will be posted in advance. Expect temporary lane closures during both grinding and paving. During paving, driveway access will be limited.

One lane of traffic will remain open throughout construction, but expect traffic delays.

For questions about the construction, contact City Project Engineer Andrew Sics 360-282-3174,;  or Public Works Inspector Tim Cross 360-282-3193,
